Tim Berners Lee was the man who invented WWW (World Wide Web). He is important because he changed society by inventing the internet.

He was born in 1955 in London. Both of his parents were mathematicians. He loved electronics from an early age.

He grew up as a successful man. He graduated as a physic major from Oxford University in 1976. Whilst he was there, he built the first computer using only a soldering iron, TTL gate, an M68OO processor and an old television.

His early jobs were working on barcode technology, writing typesetting software, writing a generic macro language, working on FASTBUS system software and designing a heterogeneous remote procedure call system.

Later, in 1980 he wrote, but never produced, his first programme called “Enquire,” which later foreshadowed his later work on WWW. In 1989, he proposed a global hypertext project AKA the World Wide Web. From then a lot of people started to buy the computers and Tim soon became successful in engineering and business. He said,” It is about getting excited about connections, rather than nervous.” It inspired people to work on the internet to find out more.

Tim Berners-Lee is currently the director of WWW Consortium, the group that sets technical standards for the web. He then wrote a book, entitled “Weaving the Web”.

We can learn that if we work hard and have patience, we can achieve anything! It has affected us by inspiring us that we can change the world!  “Anyone who has track of time when using a computer knows the propensity to dream, the urge to make dreams come true and the tendency to miss lunch.” Without him, you wouldn’t have been reading this and I wouldn’t be writing this!
