The story:
There's a boy called Greg Heffley who is very ordinary but he is weird
in different ways. One of them is that he has a diary.
So, there is a Valentines dance and his school and Greg are trying
to find a date. His best friend Rowley Jefferson wants to go with
him, but he doesn't have a date, either. Greg then worries he'll
be left out in the cold on the big night. But then, Rowley is the
odd man out instead of Greg.

Characters: Greg Heffley(hilarious), Rowley Jefferson(weird), Susan Heffley(mum and is embarrassing),
Frank Heffley(dad and is annoying), Mr Jefferson and Abigail(Greg's date and is desperate because she wants a date so badly).

Highlights:
When Greg wrote letters to the dance, to himself, so it would look
he was already taken, so girls would like him better. Also, the girls
would gang round him because he has had lots letters from girls to
the dance.

Any weak bits:
There are no weak bits. The book was amazing.

Unputdownable:
I grabbed this book whenever the TV or radio came on and read it rather than playing on the WII or my iPad.

The Casson Family – Indigo’s Star Book Review.

March 20th, 2014

Name: The Casson Family – Indigo’s Star.

Author: Hilary McKay.

Number of Pages: 244 (262 including extracts and Q&A)

Date Published: 2013

The story: Indigo is really sick and lonely (or feeling blue), so he misses a whole term of school. Bill (Indigo’s dad) calls home to check up on the kids (he lives in London because he is an artist and his art studio is in London). Indigo soon gets well and is sent back to school by Eve (Indigo’s  mum). School bully, the red-haired gang leader, picks on Indigo, but Saffron (Indigo’s sister) and Sarah (her best friend) beat him up. A new boy from America called Tom boasts about his mum and dad and tries to be cool. He lives with his grandma (who everyone thinks is a witch because she has a house full of cats). Rose and Indigo visit Tom and find him playing a guitar on the roof.

The characters:

Indigo – Main Character – Stubborn

Tom – Friend – Adventurous

Caddy – Sister – Pretty

Saffron – Adopted Sister – Intelligent

Eve – Mum – Compassionate

Bill – Dad – Clean-Freak

Rose – Sister – Artistic

Red-Haired Gang Leader – Bully – Arrogant

Highlights:

My favourite part was when Rose called her dad and started to cry saying “I broke Tom’s guitar”. Bill rushed home and bought a guitar. He bought the guitar which Tom dreamed of having because he would always visit a music shop, which sold the guitar, every Saturday and used to play it in a corner. It was my favourite part because it is very touching and emotional, because even though her dad doesn’t visit her very much, he bought her a £450 guitar.

Any weak bits?

NO! Definitely not! This book is amazing and it has no weak bits whatsoever!

Unputdownable?

Yes, it is unputdownable. I spent every single spare second reading this book and now it is my favourite book.

I rate it 5 stars!
